PROBATION DEPARTMENT
 
Commencing January 1, 1992 the Sylvania Municipal Court Established a self-administered Probation Department. The Probation Department consists of one Full-Time Chief Probation Officer and a Part-time Probation Officer along with one full-time secretary and a Part-time file clerk.

The Probation department is responsible for conducting Pre-Sentence investigation reports as ordered by the Court. After sentencing they supervise and monitor any order of the Court which could include, attendance of A.A. meetings, Drug testing, Alcohol Assessments, counseling, Community Service and Restitution. Some of the services offered by Probation are:

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INTERVENTION PROGRAM: This program is restricted to persons convicted of Domestic Violence. The defendant is required to complete a lengthy process of intensive group sessions directly relating to Domestic Violence.

SATURDAY MORNING ALCOHOL AWARENESS & EDUCATION: Participants are presented with factual information regarding alcohol, its effect on body functions, and on diminished driving ability, Through the use of videotapes, group discussion and written hand-outs, participants are presented with the means to identify their own pattern of alcohol use and ways to avoid replication.

COMPASS & NAZARETH HALL 72 HOUR DRIVER INTERVENTION: These programs have both been certified by the State of Ohio. They have been developed as an alternative to 72 consecutive hours of imprisonment for first time driving under the influence offenders only.

ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE COUNSELING: The Probation department furnishes qualified agencies to persons convicted and sentenced to alcohol/drug counseling. These agencies provide individual as well as group therapy sessions both on an in-patient and out-patient basis.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: In appropriate cases, defendants are sentenced to perform work hours as ordered by the Court as an alternative to jail. The Probation department currently assigns defendants to nine different non-profit agencies.
