The Sylvania Municipal Court Probation Department consists of one full-time chief probation officer, one full-time probation officer, two full-time deputy clerks and one part-time deputy clerk.

The Probation Department is responsible for conducting pre-sentence investigation reports as ordered by the court. It also supervises and monitors any order of the court, which may include the following: alcohol/drug treatment, AA meetings, drug testing, community service, restitution and psychological counseling.

Programs offered here at Sylvania Municipal Court include:

Domestic Violence Intervention Program
This program is restricted to persons convicted of domestic violence. The defendant is required to complete a lengthy process of intensive group sessions directly relating to domestic violence. Click here for a list of domestic violence programs.

Anger Management Program

The defendant is required to complete a 6 week intensive group session directly related to anger management.

Other programs monitored by the Probation Department include:

Driver Intervention Programs
Driver intervention programs include: Compass, Behavioral Connections, New Concepts, Northwest Beacon Counseling, Talbot Services and the C.A.N. Program. These programs have been certified by the State of Ohio. They have been developed as an alternative to 72 consecutive hours of imprisonment for first-time driving under the influence offenders

Compass and Behavioral Connections also offer a 6 day driver intervention program. This program is an alternative to 144 consecutive hours of incarceration for the second time offender or high test offender.

Alcohol/Drug/Psychological Counseling
The Probation Department furnishes qualified agencies who can provide an assessment and recommendation for those ordered to alcohol, drug or psychological counseling.Click here for a list of alcohol and drug education programs. Also refer to the alcohol/drug/psychological counseling agency list.

Community Service
In appropriate cases, defendants are sentenced to perform hours of service as ordered by the court, as an alternative to jail. The Probation Department currently assigns defendants to nine different nonprofit agencies.
